The annual Bürgerpark budget is 2.0 - 2.5 million euros. The Bürgerparkverein has 30 permanent employees as gardeners, skilled workers and administration staff. In addition, 8-10 part-time employees work as security and cleaning staff, as hunters and for catching muskrats. Furthermore, Bürgerpark offers work experience programmes for pupils (primarily for the animal enclosures), vocational training for persons difficult to place and the opportunity of completing a voluntary ecological year.

Around 2/3 of the costs are raised at relatively regular intervals every year as follows:

• Donations (member's contributions and private donations)
• Bürgerpark Tombola
• New Year's donations and summer donations
• Rental and leasing revenues
• Football pools and lottery funds / foundations
• Gräfin Emma Stiftung

The remaining third of the annual budget is covered by legacies and inheritances, which are received at very irregular intervals, however.

The donated funds have been used for the following projects, among others:

• Planting trees and rejuvenating the stock of trees
• Plantings, maintenance of paths, bank and shore areas of waterbodies
• Park benches, playgrounds, lighting
• Maintenance of the buildings
• Sports facilities (Finnbahn track)
• Public relations work
• School instruction
• Teaching material
• Administration
